About & Work

Principal Engineer and Systems Architect with one foot in research and one in production.

10+ years designing enterprise-scale systems across AI, cybersecurity and HCI — translating complex challenges into scalable, user-centred platforms, mentoring individuals, and advising founders who need senior architectural judgment.

My work sits at the seam between three fields that increasingly need each other: human-computer interaction, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity. I came to this intersection through years of building production systems and noticing that the interesting failure modes are rarely purely technical.

At Workday I architected the Deployment Intelligence multi-agent system — reducing enterprise implementation time by up to 25% within the first six months — and previously led the Chameleon UI Platform, which grew delivery capacity by 280% while reducing resourcing by a third. Across both, I worked alongside product, UX, research, cybersecurity, legal, privacy and senior leadership to ship systems that hold up in the real world.

I'm a recognised researcher in HCI, cybersecurity and AI with publications and presentations internationally — and a champion for LGBTQ+ representation and diversity in technology, committed to building inclusive platforms and engineering cultures where all contributors can do their best work.

In practice, I bring all of this to startups: helping them design architectures, ship AI features responsibly, and avoid the well-documented mistakes the literature has already mapped.

Experience

  • Principal Engineer · AI, Deployment Intelligence

    2024 – Present

    Workday

    • Architected Workday's Deployment Assistant — the architectural baseline for enterprise AI across the organisation. Layered UI/API/RAG/AI stack in TypeScript, React, Python, Scala and LangChain with shift-left security, privacy and governance.
    • Led a cross-functional team (frontend, AI/ML, product) through full lifecycle delivery; introduced AI evaluation frameworks, usage and token telemetry, and shared architectural principles enabling parallel workstreams.
    • Delivered multi-mode agent (Ask, Plan, Agent) with streaming, threads, citations, document upload and cross-tenant read/write across internal, external and MCP targets. Now serving 1,000+ subscriber organisations month-on-month.
  • Principal Engineer · Chameleon UI Platform

    2017 – 2024

    Workday

    • Architect and lead for Workday's admin persona shared UI platform — adopted as the canonical admin UI foundation across 5 organisations and 15+ production projects.
    • Designed the 3-layer Data / Domain / View architecture and a 100+ component TypeScript library; improved projects-per-capacity by 3.5× (280% more projects, 33% less resourcing) and onboarded 100+ developers.
    • Set CI/CD standards (GitHub Actions, Snyk), an E2E testing strategy across 14 projects, and led early multi-agent AI PoC and delivery. Architect and developer of Workday's cybersecurity single-pane-of-glass front door and scorecard system.

Mentoring & Advisory

Senior architectural judgment, on demand

I advise early-stage startups on architecture, AI, and security — and mentor individuals navigating technical and leadership challenges. A small number of engagements each year, focused on where I can add the most value.

Architecture review

A focused deep dive into your system. You get a written assessment, prioritized risks, and concrete recommendations on data flow, security posture, and AI integration.

Best fit

Pre-Series A teams who have shipped, and want a senior second opinion.

Fractional architect

Ongoing involvement as the senior technical voice in the room — pairing with your CTO or tech lead on hard calls across product, infrastructure, and AI.

Best fit

Teams between 5 and 30 engineers without a dedicated principal architect.

Security advisory

Leading threat models and hands-on security consultancy. I help teams identify attack surfaces, build defensive architecture, and ship with confidence.

Best fit

Teams building products where security is a differentiator — or a liability.

Speaking engagements

Keynotes, panels, and hands-on workshops on AI, cybersecurity, and human-computer interaction. Research-backed, practical insight delivered with accessibility in mind.

Best fit

Organisers looking for a speaker who bridges technical depth with engaging delivery.

Individual mentoring

One-to-one sessions for engineers, architects, and founders navigating career transitions, technical decisions, or leadership challenges. Structured, honest, and focused on your context.

Best fit

Individuals looking for senior perspective without the overhead of a full engagement.
